New Bedford, Massachusetts - The New Bedford Police Department is announcing its upcoming Cadet Exam which is being offered March 15, 2008.
New Bedford Police Cadets perform a variety of non-enforcement duties, largely administrative in nature, that allow them to gain valuable knowledge and insight regarding the inner workings of the police department while providing the potential to receive preference for hiring as a police officer. Police Cadets who complete (2) years in good standing as a Cadet and meet all other eligibility requirements to become a police officer can be granted preference for hiring over other candidates on the Civil Service list at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
The Police Cadet position is a full time, paid position with the City of New Bedford Police Department which many police officers have taken advantage of and that provided an opportunity for future employment as a police officer that may not have otherwise been available to them without their cadet preference.
The exam will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the New Bedford High School located at 230 Hathaway Boulevard in New Bedford, MA at 9:00 A.M. The last date for filing for the exam is Friday, March 7, 2008.
