Playground

The entire airport community is interested in helping young children gain an understanding, appreciation and an interest in the field of aviation. One of the unique components of the airport, which helps to distinguish the New Bedford Regional Airport from many other airports in the United States is our state-of-the-art aviation-themed playground.

As a learning resource/educational facility with the aim of getting young children interested in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at a young age, the playground provides a way for children to enjoy the airport atmosphere in a fun and safe location. The playground, officially known as the LCpl. Matthew R Rodriguez Playground, sits along the airport fence, with dedicated parking, providing a one-of-a-kind experience for visitors. The facility was moved from concept to reality thanks to the tireless efforts of the Atlantic Aviators organization, based here at the New Bedford Regional Airport.
