Business Owner Information

Dear Business Owner:

The City Clerk’s Office is obligated to inform you of the following: Massachusetts State Law, Chapter 110, Section 5, requires that business owners file a Business Certificate with their respective City or Town Clerk every four years.  Failure to do so is punishable by a fine of not more than $300.00 for each month that a business is not registered.

Business Certificates expire four years from the date of issue.

Forms are available online and in the City Clerk’s Office between the hours of 8am to 4pm, Monday – Friday, with the exception of legal holidays.

The filing fee for this registration is $40.00; and the Certificate is valid for four years.

If, at any time, you change location or cease to conduct business, the law requires that you inform the Office of the City Clerk of the change in location/status. While a $20 Change of Address fee applies when moving the location or status of your business, the City Clerk’s Office does not charge a fee to withdraw or discontinue your business.
