ADVOCACY - MEDICARE - MEDICAID - PHARMACY

Advocacy for the aging means to work and plead on behalf of older people for services that are now non-existent or unavailable to them.

This may include:

Presenting an older persons case to another agency.

Encouraging changes in an agency's policies and procedures to make services more accessible to older persons using the Department.

Pressing for changes in public policy on behalf of all seniors in the community.

CASE MANAGEMENT

Knowledgeable staff can provide valuable assistance with identifying needs and coordinating the delivery of programs and services.

CRISIS INTERVENTION

DURABLE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT LOAN PROGRAM

The New Bedford Council on Aging medical equipment loan out program has been operating more than 10 years. Equipment is available for a long or short term loan.

Usual items available are:
shower chairs, commodes, walkers (regular or folding), wheelchairs, and canes.

By calling 508-991-6250 arrangements can be made to pick up equipment, Monday - Friday from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm at our office.

ELDER LAW PROJECT

There is no need to wait until the problem becomes serious! Call for advice as soon as you think you may have a problem!

MULTI-LINGUISTIC STAFF ~ PORTUGUESE/SPANISH

OUTREACH

Trained staff provide outreach services to those elderly who are homebound or unable to get to the center. These staff can provide information on Social Security, SSI, Medicare, Medicaid, fuel assistance, property taxes, Veteran's benefits and Department services. Staff can assist with the necessary forms. Staff also can assist in identifying needs, encourage the acceptance of aid, and provide contact with needed services.
