U.S. Economic Development Administration Awards New Bedford Economic Development Council with $200,000 Grant for Waterfront Development

On April 23, 2014, Mayor Jon Mitchell joined Derek Santos, Executive Director of the Economic Development Council and Matthew Morrissey, Director of the New Bedford Wind Energy Center in welcoming U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Matt Erskine to the City of New Bedford.

Mayor Mitchell Establishes Public Art Committee; Announces New Mural Project

New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell has brought together a team of artists and organizations to help foster public art projects throughout the City.
Recognizing the importance of public art as a vehicle to promote beautification, neighborhood engagement, community pride and cohesion, Mayor Mitchell and the “New Bedford Public Art Committee,” hope to support more opportunities for local artists to publically display their work.

Mayor Testifies Before Legislature in Support of Local Jobs and Offshore Wind Energy Industry

New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell will testify this morning before the Massachusetts Legislature Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy in opposition to proposed state legislation that would introduce large quantities of Canadian hydropower into the energy market which would likely stifle the development of the Commonwealth’s offshore wind industry.
