The Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) is the information technology and data processing center for the City of New Bedford. Responsible for all aspects of computer operation within the City of New Bedford’s municipal government, MIS coordinates the procurement, installation, training, maintenance and operation of all computer-related equipment. MIS also designs, manages and maintains all of the local and wide area network infrastructure in use by the City. These networks are comprised of communications equipment that connects dozens of municipal buildings and several hundred computers, servers, and additional equipment to form the computing backbone of our City government.
In addition, the MIS Department is responsible for all data processing work related to the production of employee paychecks, municipal bills, accounts payable checks, budget preparation, accounting reports, and more. The department also designs, develops and maintains the official City of New Bedford web site with a goal of providing current and accurate information to our citizenry.
Additionally, MIS also manages and maintains the City’s in-house electronic mail system along with several other network management and application servers. This department also provides all repair and maintenance, as well as end-user training, of the City’s personal computers, printers and peripherals.
