New Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off Site
The next household hazardous waste collection is scheduled for Saturday, April 17th, 9:00 a.m to 12 noon. The Refuse District has centralized the collection to better serve New Bedford and Dartmouth residents. The new collection site will be at the Crapo Hill Landfill, 300 Samuel Barnet Blvd., New Bedford in the New Bedford Business Park, Exit 7 off Route 140. Click here for more information.
Recycle Old Phone Books
As your new phone books are delivered, it is the perfect time to recycle your old phone books. New Bedford and Dartmouth residents can recycle their books in their blue bin or drop them off at the Shawmut Avenue Transfer Station. Click here for more information.
Aerosol Containers Now Accepted at the Shawmut Avenue Transfer Station
New Bedford residents can now recycle empty aerosol containers at the Shawmut Avenue Transfer Station, 1103 Shawmut Avenue. For safety reasons, the aerosol containers must be brought to the Shawmut Avenue Transfer Station; do not place in a blue bin. The Shawmut Avenue Transfer Station is open Monday to Friday 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Click here for more information

Office Paper, Junk Mail and Plastics 1-7 (except Styrofoam) Now Accepted in Blue Bins
New Bedford residents and businesses can now recycle all clean plastic containers numbered 1 through 7 (except Styrofoam) as well as office paper and junk mail. Place these items in your blue bin and set the bin out on your regular collection day.
Examples of plastic containers include yogurt cups, shampoo bottles, plastic bags and margarine tubs. However this does not include any type of Styrofoam – such as cups, take-out containers, “peanuts”, egg cartons, or insulation -- nor plastic wrap, 5-gallon buckets, plastic toys or laundry baskets. Additional types of recyclable paper include junk mail, copy and printer paper, brown paper bags, file cards and stationery. Shredded paper can be placed in either paper bags or see-through plastic bags and put inside or on top of the blue bin. No pizza boxes, please. Click here for more information |
