City Offering Recycling Cart Loans
Starting Monday, Feb. 7, the City will offer a Recycling Cart Loan Program for residents who need more recycling capacity during the pandemic. The program will be available to residents on a temporary basis.
“We understand more residents are at home now and generating more waste. This Recycling Cart Loan Program offers more space to recycle all clean bottles, cans, jugs, jars, paper and cardboard,” said Jennifer Vieira, acting director of the Department of Facilities and Fleet Management.
Eligibility is as follows:
- Single-family homes can receive one 65-gallon recycling cart per parcel.
- Two-family homes can receive one 95-gallon recycling cart per parcel.
- Multifamily homes with three, four, five, or six units can receive one 95-gallon recycling cart per parcel.
- Mixed-use and commercial buildings that are part of the City’s collection program can receive one 95-gallon recycling cart per parcel.
There will be no delivery fee for the carts, which are the standard blue bins with the orange lid and wheels on the back. Residents must have already purchased minimum amounts of trash and recycling carts from the City. Carts offered in the temporary program are available only for recycling and should not be used for trash.
To request a recycling cart, please contact the Department of Facilities and Fleet Management by phone at (508) 961-3008 or by email at email@example.com. Requests made before noon on Wednesday will be delivered by waste management contractors on Thursday or Friday of that week, depending on staffing.
Requests made after 12 p.m. on Wednesday will be delivered the following week.
The cart will remain City property, and the City will have the right to reclaim the cart at any time. If a property owner would like to return the cart, they can call (508) 961-3008 to arrange to have it picked up.
