Drought Prompts Ban on Most Nonessential Outdoor Water Uses

NEW BEDFORDConsistent with a statewide directive, the City is prohibiting nonessential outdoor water uses, namely sprinkler systems, on account of the drought conditions across the Northeast. The restriction will remain in effect until further notice.

The water restriction comes on the heels of the state declaring Significant Drought status for nearly every city and town in Southeastern Massachusetts.

The restriction is considered precautionary. The water level in the Assawompset Pond Complex in Lakeville and Rochester, the City’s drinking water source, shows signs of drought but remains healthy.
