Public Forum Scheduled to Discuss Potential Locations for Restored Whalemen’s and Fishermen’s Memorial Statue

NEW BEDFORDThe City’s Planning Department is hosting a public forum to discuss potential locations for The Whalemen’s and Fishermen’s Memorial statue.

Created and gifted to the City in 1962 by acclaimed sculptor and artist Anna Hyatt Huntington, the statue was recently restored and is ready to return to New Bedford.

The forum will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park Visitors Center, 33 William St.

The City has solicited public input on social media over the past year on potential locations with the Downtown waterfront area being identified as the preferred location. The Planning Department will facilitate a discussion at the forum regarding different potential sites within that area.
