Councilor William Brad Markey

debsmallWilliam Brad Markey has been a city resident for over 25 years, residing on Sassaquin Pond where he and his wife Jacqueline have raised two daughters, both of whom graduated from the New Bedford Public School system. He is also a former small business owner in New Bedford. Brad is a graduate of Southeastern Massachusetts University (currently UMASS Dartmouth) and received his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Textile Technology; and for 32 years has been employed as a Sales Representative by the industrial textile company, William Barnet & Son.  Brad remains active in his community by sitting on the Board of Directors of The New Bedford Youth Soccer League, as well as serving as a Catechism teacher and Lector at Our Lady Of Fatima Church.

Wanting to give back to his community, Brad chose to run for the Ward One Council seat in 2017 and was elected that November.  Brad uses his role on the Council to advocate for his constituents, help people to navigate the bureaucracy of City government and ensure that the City moves forward while responsibly using taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars.  He currently serves on a number of important committees of the Council and chairs two that are near and dear to his heart, the Committee on Labor & Industry and the Special Committee on the Airport.

Always responsive and willing to help, Brad encourages his Ward 1 constituents to never hesitate to reach out to him with a problem, concern or idea.  He can be reached on his personal cell phone at 508.858.6288.
