New Bedford Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan

The City of New Bedford in conjunction with our consultant CDM Smith, has recently developed an updated LOCAL MULTI-HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN. This document is intended to be an all encompassing guide to recognizing and understanding what sort of hazards our City is vulnerable to and outlining how we plan to mitigate these potential hazards in advance of encountering them.

This document represents the thinking of the department heads and leaders in this City’s Administration but we recognize that it affects all the property owners and residents who work and live in New Bedford and therefore should be under review by all who have a stake in our city.

This plan document is being posted to our City web site and all are invited to take this opportunity to review it and provide feedback and comment before it is presented to the City Council for adoption and submitted to FEMA for acceptance.

This plan will remain on the web site for several months and be updated as needed to reflect the most current plan. It is anticipated that on or about January 30, 2015 the document will be submitted to FEMA for their review while the City of New Bedford continues acting concurrently to refine the plan and ensure that all that is presented is correct and accurate and present it before City council.

If you have any feedback or comment about the Hazard Mitigation Plan please feel free to e-mail David Fredette at or send by hard copy to DPI, 1105 Shawmut Avenue New Bedford 02746 Attn: David Fredette or call 508 979-1550×128.
