SOLID WASTE COLLECTION
Recycling is now mandatory for everyone in the City of New Bedford – even if you pay for private collection. That means recyclable items such as bottles, cans, jugs, jars, paper, and cardboard cannot be placed in the trash.
As part of the City’s program, Capitol Waste Services collects trash weekly from residents and small businesses. Customers should place trash carts curbside prior to 7:00 a.m. on the designated collection day but no earlier than 5:00 p.m. on the day prior to collection. All trash must fit in the cart provided. For more information, please use the following links:
- Acceptable and unacceptable items in your trash cart

The information above pertains to all areas of the City except downtown. If you are a business or resident of downtown, please see the Downtown collection link or call (508) 961-3008 for more information.
