Q: What happens to all my permits in the View Permit system?
A: All permits in View Permit will be migrated to Open Gov. You will have access to all your applications, inspections, and permits.
Q: How do I get access to all my permits from the View Permit system to the new Open Gov?
A: You need to register for a new account, using your existing email address. You have the option to update your user profile once you have created a new account online.
Q: What if I already have an Open Gov account in another town?
A: If you already have an Open Gov account that you use in another town, you may use that account to access your City of New Bedford permits.
Q: How do I set up an account if I don’t have one?

Contractors are now able to apply for building permits online through our online permit center or at one of two conveniently placed kiosks located at 133 William St Room 308. This includes building, electrical, gas and plumbing permits.

- No work will be started until the permit is issued and in the hand of the contractor or person(s) doing the work.
- Note: Effective September 1, 2017 ALL Plumbing, Gas and Electrical permit will be done on line.
- If you pull an Electrical Permit for a Generator, Smoke or Fire detector you must also pull a Building Permit.
- When you pull a generator permit you must also pull an Electrical Permit.
