City Announces Environmental Workforce Job Training Collaborative with MassHire Career Center

New Bedford, Massachusetts– The City of New Bedford, in collaboration with the MassHire Career Center of Greater New Bedford, today announced the Environmental Workforce Job Training (EWJT) program, funded through a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The EWJT aims to train sixty unemployed or underemployed residents of Greater New Bedford for careers in the environmental and green job fields through 2022. The EWJT program will hold free training sessions from Monday, September 13, 2021 through Friday, September 17, 2021, at the Fort Taber Community Center from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This initial training is a 40-hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operators (OSHA 40-HAZWOPER) certificate program and is required of all program participants. After successful completion of the OSHA 40-HAZWOPER course, participants can choose additional free training options for careers in:

 

  • Environmental Abatement/Construction
  • Clean Water Certification
  • Environmental Emergency Response and Waste Management Services
  • Waterfront Industrial and Wind Energy
  • Industrial Health & Safety

Career path training in Green Infrastructure/Natural Solutions Landscaping for Stormwater Management will be added in 2022.
