Mayor Mitchell Announces Steering Committee is Exploring New Bedford as Olympic Sailing Venue

New Bedford, Massachusetts- New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell has established a steering committee charged with exploring New Bedford’s potential to serve as the venue for sailing should Boston host the Summer Olympics in 2024.

During a press conference held in City Hall, the mayor announced he has assembled a team of individuals with broad sailing experience to help evaluate and establish a plan for New Bedford to host the sailing events during the Summer 2024 Olympic Games.

New Bedford Welcomes “Green Economy” Company To Business Park

Local Manufacturer of Solar Thermal Panels and other Renewable Heating Products Moving Headquarters into City

New Bedford, Massachusetts- HTP, Inc., a Freetown-based designer and manufacturer of green, renewable, and high efficiency products for space and water heating is expanding and consolidating its operations at the former AFC Cable Systems site in the New Bedford Business Park. The company expects to create 40 new jobs, in addition to the 155 workers it already employs.

City of New Bedford Receives $1.2M for Energy Improvement Measures

New Bedford, Massachusetts – The City of New Bedford announced that it has received $1,160,441 in utility incentives for the first two phases of its streetlight conversion project. In September, the City announced a partnership with Siemens to replace nearly 10,000 City-owned streetlights, traffic and crossing signals and other exterior lights with LED fixtures. The first two phases of the project completed about 90% of the project, while the final phase is currently underway.

“This utility incentive payment is an example of our efforts to find ways to deliver better services, save taxpayer dollars, and be good to the environment. New Bedford Hosts 38th Annual Half Marathon

New Bedford, Massachusetts – On Sunday, March 15, 2015, thousands of runners participated in the 38th Annual New Bedford Half Marathon. The race was hosted by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, a New Bedford based fraternal organization, and the City of New Bedford.
