New Bedford City Council

The City Council is the Legislative branch of government for the City of New Bedford. As such, the Council has authority to create and adopt all laws (ordinances) which govern the City.  Under the City’s ‘Plan B’ Charter, the Council approves the annual budget, appropriates all funds necessary to City operations and confirms mayoral appointments.  The City Council is primarily responsible to the citizens of New Bedford and is responsive to the needs of residents, businesses and other stakeholders within the City.
