Purchasing Department

The purpose of the Purchasing Department is primarily to assist all City of New Bedford departments with the procurement of all goods required by that department, utilizing the guidelines and General Laws of the state of Massachusetts.

Purchasing is also responsible for the processing of all purchase orders, working with the MIS and Auditing departments, to monitor the on-line budgets and to eliminate overspending by departments.

Switchboard Operator for City Hall also resides in this division answering all incoming calls, forwarding callers to perspective departments and placing outgoing long distance calls for employees within the City’s phone system as well as keeping an updated telephone directory of all City Hall departments, the Purchasing Department also oversees Contract Compliance.
