How to Apply for a Marriage License
- Both parties must apply together in person at the City Clerk’s Office.
- If either Party has been Divorced, the divorce must be final before they can apply for the marriage license.
- There is a $40.00 Application fee.
- A Marriage license is good for 60 days from date of application.
- The Marriage must take place in Massachusetts.
- Photo IDs and Social Security cards are required to apply for license.
- Birth Certificate is needed for all applicants.
- The correct spelling of parents’ names, including mother’s maiden name, are needed.
- There is a 3 Day waiting period before the license can be picked up.
- A Court Waiver is needed if couple wishes to marry before the waiting period expires.
- The Minister, Justice of the Peace, etc., must be from Massachusetts. If not, he or she must have a Commission from the Massachusetts Secretary of State’s Office.
- Please expect to spend 20 – 30 minutes filling out the marriage application.
- Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
- The City Clerk is a Justice of the Peace. Couples wishing to be married in City Hall may do so by appointment.
