Afterschool Program

 

The Full STEAM Ahead program is a robust afterschool program for students in grades 2-5 with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math and Makerspace (STEAM). The goal of the program is to enhance creativity, problem solving collaboration through enriching and fun games, projects and activities. A wide variety of STEAM topics will be covered including, power, energy, force, physics, forensics, makerspace and environmental science. Participants will have a FUN, engaging and enriching place to go afterschool to play with and make friends as they explore and discover!

Full STEAM Ahead is offered at two locations:

Andrea McCoy Recreation Center and the Ricketson Nature Center (located in Brooklawn Park.) The Andrea McCoy afterschool program is offered to students in grades 2-5. The Ricketson Nature Center location is offered to students in grades K-8.

Full steam ahead is offered at two locations:

Andrea Mccoy Rec Center – 181 Hillman Street 

An all hands-on science experience! Our Andrea McCoy Rec Center site will feature a STEAM curriculum that is designed for participants to lead themselves and their peers down their own paths of discovery! Participants will explore STEAM concepts by using circuit boards, 3-D printing, robotics, race car test tracks, and more! We will experience physics and math in ways that are exciting and engaging and encourage creative thinking and play.

Rickeson Nature Center – 17 Irvington Street (Located in Brooklawn Park)

Explore the natural world around you! Our Ricketson Nature Full STEAM Ahead site will feature a curriculum that is heavily focused on nature and environmental-based activities and projects, Participants will frequently be led on hikes through the Ricketson Nature Trails, visit the duck pond, and explore the wet meadow and pollinator garden. We will encounter live insects, and observe the wide variety of plant and animal species that live in our park—both out in nature and in the center through microscopes and magnifiers, The ultimate outdoor science experience!
