Mosquito-borne Disease
West Nile (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), also called arboviruses, are diseases spread by mosquitoes in Massachusetts. These viruses can cause illness in humans ranging from a mild fever to more severe disease.
Prevention tips during peak mosquito season:
- Use insect repellents while outdoors
- Wear loose-fitting, long-sleeved clothing
- Avoid outdoor activities during dusk and dawn
- Repair damaged windows and door screens
- Empty, cover, or remove standing water near your home
