LOCAL AND STATE LEGISLATION

The Community Preservation Act (CPA) is a Massachusetts state law (MGL Ch. 44B) passed in 2000. It is a smart growth tool that helps communities to preserve open space and historic sites, create affordable housing, and develop outdoor recreational facilities.  To read the CPA legislation, click here.

Each community that adopts the Community Preservation Act is required to establish a Community Preservation Committee (CPC) to administer the program.  To read New Bedford’s CPC ordinance, click here.
